As originally reported in the Seattle Post Intelligencer (PI), the UW Board of Regents has approved the Alaska Airlines Arena motion. This means that the renaming of the basketball court inside Hec Edmundson Pavilion to Alaska Airlines Arena may actually come to fruition following the formal announcement. The cost of this breaks down to four main parts:

$400,000 annually in cash

$25,000 in travel benefits

20 MVP Gold memberships valued at $5,000-$10,000 each

$175,000 per year to activate additional sponsorship opportunities

I wonder if any of this money will find its way into educating the student population of UW, or if it will just get used up in the hunt for more corporate money and trips to Hawaii. I guess we will not know until it officially happens - and I think we should all keep our eyes out.
